Structural bearings for the Arthur-Branchaud Bridge rehabilitation

On July 20, Goodco Z-Tech completed the delivery of 246 of the 270 structural bearings required for the rehabilitation of the Arthur-Branchaud Bridge. This bridge, located on Highway 20, crosses the Richelieu River between Beloeil and Mont St. Hilaire on the South Shore of Montreal, Quebec. The supply of “P” series (Pot) bearings was part of the critical path for this major rehabilitation project divided into three phases and which started in January 2009. It took Goodco Z-Tech at the Laval, QC, plant only three months to fabricate and deliver 90% of the order for Pot bearings. Adding to the complexity of the job, all the base plates had to be custom-fabricated according to the precise measurements of the holes drilled into the piers and abutments for the anchor bolts.

By the time the project is completed, the Laval plant will have delivered 24 additional bearings and a total of 15 HSS expansion joints (465 linear metres) fabricated to the specifications of the Quebec Transport Department (MTQ), making this the largest bridge project ever executed for the MTQ. Structal-Bridges, also participating in this construction project, will supply a total of 875 tons of steel to replace the girders supporting the main span of the bridge.
